Yogi of the Month

Yogi of the Month: Gillian Harris-Crocker

What does yoga mean to you?

For me, yoga is the total package. Need to sweat? Go to yoga. Need to clear your mind? Go to yoga. Need a friend? Go to yoga. Need a laugh? That’s right-yoga. Everything about it makes me good. It’s hard to imagine life without it now, and I hope it will continue to be a part of my life for many years to come.

What does yoga mean to me?

I love yoga. I love the people I meet at yoga. Yoga makes me feel strong, centred and relaxed – oh-and taller! (I’m under five feet!) Those stretches feel so so good! It’s peaceful, reflective and inspirational at times. I use my yoga breath on those nights when it’s difficult to fall asleep.Yoga makes me feel better in mind, body and spirit!

What does yoga mean to me?

For me, yoga was never about being able to do complex poses or fitting into yoga pants. It was about changing unhealthy thinking patterns and learning to use the body-mind connection to work towards mindfulness. Yoga has helped me on my journey of learning to stay grounded through stressful times, enjoy happiness during pleasurable times, and knowing how to heal myself during sad times. I think the most important, yet simple, message that I learned from the beginning of my yoga journey was to just breathe. It is such a simple, yet powerful, message.

The bonus gift (and it truly is a gift!) that comes with yoga practice is the overwhelming sense of community and support that the other members provide.
